Wire Rope SS

The main benefit of stainless steel wire rope over galvanized steel or bright steel is its added corrosion resistance. This characteristic makes stainless steel perfect for high moisture and acidic environments, such as in marine rigging applications or job sites with harsh chemicals like chlorine.

It's also low-maintenance and quite flexible, and, like all wire rope, it's very strong, durable, and relatively easy to work with.

Types of Stainless Wire Rope

Our wire rope is available in both type 304 and type 316 steel.

304 stainless steel wire rope is the most common option, offering enough corrosion-resistance to be suitable for most general applications.

316 stainless steel wire rope has an added element, molybdenum, for added corrosion resistance. If you are planning to use wire rope in a marine environment or another application where it will regularly be exposed to chemicals, this is the best choice for you.

Stainless Steel Cable vs. Stainless Steel Wire Rope

What's the difference between stainless steel wire rope / cables? While some do use the terms interchangeably, "cable" refers to a wire rope with a diameter of less than 3/8".

Due to the smaller size, stainless cables are best-suited for lighter-duty applications such as winch lines and railings.

Stainless wire rope refers to wire rope with a diameter greater than 3/8", giving it the extra strength needed for use in lifting and hoisting jobs.

Stainless Steel Wire Rope Sizes

Most of our wire rope sizes actually fall into the stainless wire cable classification, as they are under a 3/8" diameter. However, we do offer a larger sizes as well - our rope diameters run between 3/32" and 1".

Wire Rope Inspections

As with all lifting and rigging equipment, it's essential to regularly inspect your wire ropes for damage such as kinks, breaks, and overuse indicators.
