This vinyl-coated galvanized 7x19 steel cable is generally referred to as aircraft cable and is a popular choice for deck railing systems, pulleys, winches, and more. The higher strand count and smaller wires provides flexibility and fatigue-resistance, extending the life of your cable and making it easy to work with.
Note: Despite the name, this cable is not intended for aircraft use.
The two differ in several key ways. First, aircraft cable sizes only go up to 3/8", while traditional wire rope can go up to 2" or greater in diameter. Secondly, this coated cable is not rated for overhead lifting, while wire rope standardly is.
Our aircraft cable is made using IPS-grade materials. IPS (Improved Plow Steel) refers to the strength of the cable and is the basic steel grade.
The class of this steel cable is 7x19. These numbers nominally refer to the cable's construction and differ slightly from a standard wire rope construction - in the case of aircraft cable, this is the number of total strands (including the core, which is identical to the rest of the strands) and an estimation of the number of wires within each of these strands. So for a 7x19 class, the number of outer strands is 6 (wrapped around the 7th as the core), and the number of wires making up each strand ranges from 15-26.
Along with the superior corrosion-resistance compared to a bright wire rope, a hot dip drawn galvanized wire rope offers several other benefits that make it worth the investment.
The most important of these benefits is the strength - the standard galvanization process can weaken the rope by up to 10% of the break strength. The drawn galvanization process does not, so you'll get the same strength as a comparable bright wire rope!
Drawn galvanized also enhances ductility - allowing it to perform better in critical applications - and corrosion-resistance - it won't flake or crack like an electro-galvanized wire might.
The vinyl coating adds another layer of protection, keeping dirt, moisture, UV-rays, and other potentially-damaging products away from your wire rope. It's extremely flexible, seals in lubrication, and is easier to handle than a standard aircraft cable.
Does this 7x19 wire rope come as one length? Yes, the quantity you add to the cart will be provided as one unbroken length of rope. So if you add this to the cart with a quantity of 1000, you will receive one 1000-foot long rope.
Can I order multiple separate lengths? Yes. For example, if you need two 550-foot lengths of rope, you would set the quantity to 550 and then add that to the cart twice. For each separate instance you add this to the cart, you will get a separate length of rope.
Can I order lengths less than the minimum order quantity if when combined they will be greater than the minimum order quantity? Yes - please call to speak to one of our product experts to place this order.
Complete your aircraft cable assembly - we also carry wire rope fittings and rigging hardware, including wire rope clips and wire rope thimbles. Make sure to get type 304 accessories - choosing a dfferent finish / material could result in an adverse reaction between the components.
