Wire Rope Class
Wire rope is available in a wide range of classes, each best-suited for a different type of application. Some of the more in-demand class categories are broken down below.
-
Aircraft Cable
Not approved for overhead lifting, 7x19 aircraft cable is used in a wide variety of other industries and is seen in fences, railings, sailboat rigging, and more.
Wire Rope Finishes
Choose from bright, galvanized, stainless steel, or vinyl-coated finishes.
- Bright - Uncoated, with a lubricant for basic friction- and corrosion-protection.
- Galvanized - Drawn galvanization adds additional corrosion-resistance.
- Stainless steel - Available in type 304 or 316 with the highest levels of corrosion-resistance; 316 is considered marine-grade.
- Vinyl-coating - PVC covering offers abrasion-resistance and is easier to work with than uncoated wire.
Grade & Core
The grade you choose will affect the strength of your wire rope - IPS is the basic option, with each level up providing around 10% more strength than the previous version.
The two most common cores are a fiber core (FC) or an independent wire rope core (IWRC). A fiber core is more elastic, while an IWRC is stronger and more resistant to crushing.
All of our wire rope meets Federal Specification RR-W-410 and ASTM A1023.
