7x19 Aircraft Cable
Aircraft cable is a general purpose wire rope that's useful in many types of industries and applications. Popular uses include winch lines, slings, fences, railings, rigging of sailboats.
How does aircraft cable differ from wire rope? While some use the terms interchangeably, this cable only goes up to a 3/8" diameter, while wire rope can go up to sizes of 2" or greater.
Note: This commercial-grade 7x19 wire rope cannot be used for aircraft controls or for overhead lifting.
Aircraft Cable Construction
Constructed from high-strength steel, 7x19 wire rope is available in either stainless steel finish (type 304 or 316) or with a galvanized finish, with or without a vinyl coating. Each option provides specific benefits that could make them the best choice for your application.
All meet or exceed applicable federal specification RR-W-410 (latest revision) and ASTM A1023 standards.
Corrosion-Resistant Stainless Steel
Galvanized cable provides reliable corrosion resistance, but can't offer quite the same level of protection that a stainless steel aircraft cable will offer. For marine or high-moisture environments, stainless steel is the right choice.
Type 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, ensuring better resistance to rust than the type 304. However, it's also a little weaker, given that it has less carbon in the construction.
Galvanized 7x19 Wire Rope
Galvanized aircraft cable strength is slightly higher than stainless steel. It's also much more cost-effective. Constructed from IPS (Improved Plowed Steel), this style has a hot dip galvanized finish, enhancing ductility and the overall corrosion-resistance. Compared to electro-galvanized aircraft cable, the finish won't flake or crack.
Vinyl-Coated Aircraft Cable
A vinyl coating adds an extra layer to protect the wire from dirt, grit, moisture and other abrasions. The coating also helps to seal in lubrication, reducing wear on pulleys and sheaves, and is easier to handle.
