Drawn Galvanized Steel Wire Rope

Galvanized wire rope is a steel wire configuration that's coated with a thin layer of zinc to prevent corrosion. It's ideal for outdoor uses since it can better withstand the elements, and is commonly used in agricultural applications like irrigation and erosion control.

Our galvanized wire rope meets the stringent dimensional and strength requirements of Federal Specification RR-W-410 (latest revision) and ASTM A1023 standards to ensure a high-quality product.

Why Choose Galvanized Wire Rope?

Galvanized cable is so popular because it offers a good middle option between bright steel wire rope and stainless steel wire rope.

It's has better corrosion-protection than uncoated bright steel but is much more cost-effective than stainless. It's also slightly stronger than a comparably-sized stainless version.

Drawn Galvanized vs. Electro-Galvanized

All of our galvanized wire rope is drawn galvanized instead of electro-galvanized. This offers several benefits that make these a better investment.

The first is strength - the drawn galvanization process doesn't compromise the strength of the rope, so you'll get the same break strength as a comparable bright wire rope! The electro-galvanization process can result in an up to 10% decrease in strength.

Secondly, a drawn galv. steel wire rope has better overall corrosion-resistance. It won't flake or crack. This means a longer service life and more reliable performance.

Steel Wire Rope Configuration

The most popular options are 6x19 and 6x37. These general use cables primarily differ in flexibility and abrasion-resistance. The 6x37 is more flexible but also more susceptible to abrasion. They are both rated for overhead lifting and are constructed from Extra Improved Plowed Steel (EIPS) with a steel independent wire rope core (IWRC) that's resistant to heat and crushing.

Galvanized Wire Rope Break Strength

For non-overhead lifting applications, check out our two IPS 7x19 galvanized wire rope options. They are perfect for indoor and outdoor railings. For added protection, choose our 7x19 vinyl-coated cable. It's a popular choice in aircraft cable because the rope is easier to handle yet remains flexible.

Galvanized Aircraft Cable Break Strength

Questions?

Not sure which galvanized steel wire rope cable is right for you? Call to speak to one of our product experts - they can help you find the right product for your rigging application. We even offer custom wire rope configurations if you need a specialized construction or have sourcing requirements.

Most of our wire rope is in-stock and ships quickly (even if you purchase a whole coil!), so you'll get what you need fast.

We also carry stainless steel cables with higher corrosion-resistance for marine or high-moisture environments, as well as common galvanized wire rope fittings like turnbuckles, shackles, and eye bolts.
