Twin-Path® High Temperature Sparkeater® Slings
Twin-Path® High Temperature High Performance Roundslings
Sparkeater slings are our synthetic lifting solution for high temperature environments. With the ability to withstand temperatures of up to 300˚F (149˚C), they are perfect for applications where wire rope or chain slings just aren't the right fit.
The slings' superior thermal stability is due to their heavy-duty construction. The load-bearing core yarns are made from Aramid, a heat-resistant material that's high-tenacity and low-stretch.
The protective jacket is made from Nomex®, which is both flame- and heat-resistant. The minimum temperature for these slings is -40˚F (-40˚C).
Heat-Resistant Sling Applications
Some of the most common usages of Sparkeater slings include lifting involved with pyrotechnic displays and off-shore petroleum applications. In fact, in fire-exposure off-shore petroleum testing done by London Scientific (in conjunction with the Offshore Certification Bureau), they found that these slings performed just as well as a wire rope or chain sling.
The Sparkeater High Performance Roundsling Advantage
Sparkeater slings use two independent core fiber paths, allowing them to offer superior strength without dramatically increasing the weight. This lightweight design allows for easier transport and setup, as well as lowering the chance of on-the-job injuries.
They are also load-conforming, making them more suitable for fragile loads than other high temperature slings, and the two paths offer redundant protection if one path should fail.
Lastly, a major benefit to this design style is the possibility of repair. If only the protective jacket is damaged and not the inner fibers, you may be able to have it repaired by the manufacturer, saving on the cost of a new sling.
Sling Inspections
Sparkeater slings use a tattle tail inspection system to indicate core yarn damage. This involves an extension of the core yarns that retract into the sling if the sling has been overloaded.
Note: The tattle tail system does not replace standard inspections, which should still be conducted regularly by a qualified professional.
Comprehensive Sparkeater Sling Protection
"Slings in contact with edges, corners, protrusions, or abrasive surfaces shall be protected with a material of sufficient strength, thickness, and construction to prevent damage." - ASME B30.9 (2021) 9-5.10.4(d)
